country info

Croatian is a Southern Slavic language using exclusively the Latin alphabet. Up to the break up of former Yugoslavia, the language spoken in Croatia was considered Serbo-Croatian. Since the split up, the Croatians did many efforts to distinguish themselves from the language spoken in Serbia, against which they fought a terrible war. Many new words were created. In your communication in Croatia, it is more than advisable to pay attention to use the new Croat words both towards your business partners and towards the authorities. Although Serbian can be understood by most people, speaking Serbian can have negative implications. Therefore, be careful with people claiming to translate into Serbo-Croatian, or claiming to know both languages. The Eastwards translators are familiar with all these sensitivities, and will avoid bringing you in an embarrassing position towards your Croat partners or customers.
