country info

Czech is a Western Slavic language similar to Slovak, but also related to Polish and even Russian. Written Czech uses the Latin alphabet with several distinct letters and accents. There is no fundamental language difference between the two historic Czech regions, Moravia and Bohemia, only slight differing accent, and the use of some specific, regional words. Knowledge of foreign languages is poor in the Czech Republic. It is recommended to communicate in Czech as much as possible. Although Slovak is related to Czech, don’t even consider using Slovak in your communication in the Czech Republic. Sometimes you might get by when using Polish in personal contact, but in written communication, you can be sure to upset your Czech partner with a Polish language letter or brochure.
