country info

Hungarian is a member of the Finno-Ugric family of languages. It is distantly related to Finnish and even Estonian. It is a “vowel harmony” language, isolated in Central Europe, unrelated to the Slavic, Germanic and Romance languages spoken in neighbouring states. Apart from Hungary, it is also spoken in Slovakia, Serbia (Vojvodina) and Romania (Banat and Transylvania). Knowledge of foreign languages is poor in Hungary. It is recommended to communicate in Hungarian whenever possible.
